Life's So Ripe in Siem Reap!

One can live quite well here, indeed!

We knew we'd be living the French version of "La Dolce Vida" as soon as we checked into our very affordable "Auberge de Mont Royal" and were welcomed with French Canadian hospitality - and a pool with adjoining massage rooms and spa

As the base town for excursions to Angkor Wat, "SR" is one of those places, like Cuzco in Peru or Chamonix in France, that has a shimmering, lively vibe to it.

It's chock full of restaurants, shops, massage joints, cafes, nightclubs and bars.

And when the sun goes down and the music, congestion and noise level reaches peak, this place truly comes to life!

A favorite "joint", kind of a Cambodian Casablanca, was "Le Grand Cafe", where an eclectic group of individuals come to sip, drink, people watch and dance.

I'd be hard pressed to remember a Playlist of music as diverse and captivating as the one here. I thought I'd died and gone to music heaven!

So we're bidding a sad but fond farewell to SR, as we now strike out for Hanoi, and whatever pleasures and adventures it holds.

  3. Yes I agree with Julie, it is very interesting to learn thru this blog. One question...I guess Le Grand Cafe was serving french food, is that right? Also I can see the menu is in English. Is everything written in English or it is because it is a tourist place? The price for the breakfast is 3.95 is that US dollars or Cambodian money?
Too may questions, the only thing I know as I read long time ago, it is that the Language in Cambodia incorporated some French words due to the colonization, Is there a lot of French influence?

I know too many questions, you can answer them in your spare time :)
