A Victorian Charmer

Toured the Vianmeck Palace, the all-teak home of King Rama V (Yul Brynner's son).

Constructed in 1900, it's part of the Dusit Palace complex north of Bangkok.

Quite challenging to reach so I took a cab which gave me a bird's eye view of A May Day labor parade and protest in this posh part of town that reminded me of our own D.C.

This is the section where the current King Rama IX, now lives. (Note to self: STILL awaiting that invitation).

Apparently, King Rama V needed a place away from all those tourists at the Grand Palace.

Sadly, he only chose to live in this beautiful place five years; until the "new and improved real palace" (please pardon the Irish cynicism) was constructed.

I found the house and grounds outrageously charming.

Simple wooden interiors are perfectly complemented by lovely views to the gardens and the King's personal collection of lovely family photos and period Victorian art of the first caliber.

I loved this place!
